When Was The Last Time You Hugged Your Father

Twice every year, Kids In Play, an initiative by Salvation Army (Singapore) organise open visits to Changi Prison for children with incarcerated parents to maintain parent-child bonds. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU HUGGED YOUR FATHER? follows Dan, a beneficiary of the programme. Dan’s father was incarcerated when he was a young boy and he still remembers the scene where his father was arrested vividly as he was handcuffed right in front of him. Since then, he was not able to touch his father physically, until he joined the Kids In Play programme.

The short documentary explores the themes of growing up without their fathers’ presence and how social services can help bridge the gap between parenting and incarceration.

The “Kids in Play” (KIP) program, initiated by the Salvation Army of Singapore, is supported by Community Chest. KIP provides crucial support for children of incarcerated parents. Through family bonding activities, peer mentoring, and caregiver support, the program helps children maintain connections with their parents and receive positive guidance during challenging times.

Through its efforts, Community Chest enables vital programs for vulnerable groups, such as children, families, and individuals with disabilities, to receive essential support for their well-being.
