The Sustainable Leadership Workshop, themed “The Future of Sustainable Villages,” was held in Wumu Village, Yunnan Province, in 2021. Over three days, stakeholders from academia, NGOs, enterprises, and foundations engaged with local villagers and Dongba priests, fostering deep connections and co-creating strategies for the village’s sustainable future. Initiated by Business Ecology, the workshop series aims to explore rural development, nature conservation, and urban-rural symbiosis, empowering participants to cultivate sustainable leadership while supporting local communities in finding their own sustainable development paths.

The Future of Sustainable Villages

Business Ecology

Business Ecology is a social enterprise dedicated to sustainability consulting, communication, and training services. Since 2009, it has actively supported sustainable development in China, engaging with policymakers, businesses, universities, NGOs, and media. The organization specializes in topics like climate change, biodiversity, circular economy, ESG, and social innovation. Business Ecology has created impactful public education tools, including magazines, reports, exhibitions, short films, and workshops, fostering broader societal awareness and engagement with sustainability issues.

Sustainable Leadership Workshop

The Sustainable Leadership Workshop series, organized by Business Ecology since 2020, connects multi-stakeholders with local environments to explore sustainable solutions. By learning through real-life scenarios, participants co-create localized strategies for sustainable development. With over 130 workshops and 4,000 participants by 2023, the program supports villages, NGOs, and corporates in developing long-term sustainability strategies and ESG projects, fostering sustainable leadership.
