Holding Space: Changing Lives
Singapore | Documentary | 2025 | English
Seeing an opportunity to use the arts for social good, Executive Director Priscilla Khong and Artistic Director Samantha Scott-Blackhall joined forces under their company, Gateway Arts, to produce plays about the issues that trouble young people most: social anxiety, bullying, expectations, academic pressure, depression, body image, and peer pressure, to name a few. These productions peel away the layers of fear and insecurity that hold young people back from their confident selves, with a mission to make them feel seen and understood. Each show is followed by an intentional post-show dialogues to unpack difficult topics and connect audiences with helplines. Using the immersive power of theatre to both entertain and heal, Gateway Arts is holding space for the next generation.
Project Holding Space: Changing Lives
Gateway Arts Limited
Gateway Arts is holding space for teens and young adults by using theatre productions as a meeting place for positive change. Harnessing the power of theatre, Gateway Arts nurtures emotional resilience and mental well-being among young people in Singapore. Addressing the lack of emotional-regulation skills and the stigma around seeking help, our productions dramatize real youth struggles and are followed by guided post-show dialogues with Samaritans of Singapore and TOUCH Mental Wellness. Through school tours, workshops, and partnerships with social service agencies, we cultivate empathy, openness, and lasting mental wellness in the community.
